Counselling can help with a wide variety of issues such as:

Anxiety/Depression/Stress
Bereavement/Loss
Low Self-Esteem
Relationship Issues
Abuse
Self-Harm
Trauma
Eating Disorders
Addictions
Life Changes
Parenting Issues
Identity Issues
Sexuality

It is not necessary to have a particular problem to benefit from counselling.  Many people feel they just want to get to know themselves better and to work towards reaching their full potential in life.   For others there is a general sense of unease with life and a feeling that things are not going as well as they could.

What is Integrative Counselling?

Integrative counselling recognises that there is no one psychological theory that holds the whole truth and that there is value to be found in many psychological schools of thought.  An Integrative Counsellor will therefore draw on theories and methods to suit both their own preferred ways to work and the needs of the unique individuals who come to counselling.

 My Approach

Initially, coming to counselling can be daunting and my aim is to create a welcoming and safe space where we can work together to explore the issues that are troubling you or holding you back in life.  I believe in the innate wisdom of all human beings.  Sometimes the cards we are dealt in life can create so much stress in us that we are no longer able to tune into the wisdom that is ours.  Sometimes we are just so busy running around trying to survive that we don't have the time to stop and listen to our inner wisdom.  Counselling is a space to slow down, take stock and reconnect to who you really are.  It is a confidential space where you won't be judged and can feel gently supported while you work through your issues.

I am trained to work with people who want brief counselling - that is over a short period of time - and to work with people who want in depth long term work.  If you have a particular issue that you want to work on, a phobia or specific anxiety perhaps, brief counselling might be for you.  If you are troubled by issues from childhood, sexual or physical abuse for example, or have a more deep rooted problem such as an eating disorder, longer term work may be needed.  An initial assessment will normally clarify the best route.
